In this session we will review a custom serverless solution crafted for a client for cost control that involved the eventbridge, lambda and cloudwatch aws services.

The Carnegie Classifications are a foundational framework for understanding the diverse landscape of U.S. higher education. Since their creation in 1973, they have served as the primary tool for categorizing institutions based on factors like degree offerings, research activity, and enrollment profiles. By offering a standardized view of institutional types, Carnegie Classifications support research, policy development, and strategic planning, ensuring that studies adequately represent institutions, students, and faculty.

However, the classifications have also had unintended consequences, sometimes being used as a ranking tool or impacting funding and resources in ways that may disadvantage underrepresented and regional institutions. As the higher education landscape evolves, there’s an increasing call for classifications that account for student outcomes, highlighting the ongoing impact and areas for future refinement within this influential framework.

This session will explore the history, purpose, and evolving role of the Carnegie Classifications and their impact on the higher education ecosystem.
