CBE Collaborative Pilot in California: Building an Operational Model

When: Wednesday, October 4, | 3:30p.m.-4:15p.m. ET

Recognizing the deep equity implications of enabling students with access to CBE, the California Community Colleges (CCC) has chartered a CBE Collaborative Pilot in order to build and test an operational model for CBE across the system. With leadership from the California Virtual Campus (CVC), and in partnership with C-BEN, Jobs for the Future, and Unicon, the work is progressing along three workstreams: Academic Program, Institutional Support, and Information & Technology. Practitioner-led learning is a central feature of this project in that these activities elevate learning and shared practices at the local level to build shared approaches in response to local problems of practice. In this way, colleges can develop the procedures and practices needed to ensure implementation tailored to their college contexts. While the Collaborative Pilot is in its early stages, we plan to share learning to date on our approach and its results.

Presenters:

Marina Aminy - Executive Director, California Virtual Campus
Kate Valenti - Co-Chief Executive Officer, Unicon, Inc

Competencies and the New Learner’s Journey

When: Thursday, October 5th | 9:25 a.m. - 10:10 a.m. ET

As competencies become more and more a key component of both emerging pedagogy and the technology solutions that support teaching and learning, it is important to consider how they are being applied across the full spectrum of the learner’s lifecycle. Efforts at improved credit mobility across educational domains, between institutions, and education to workforce (and back), have sparked new conversations about lifelong learning records, with competencies emerging as an important component of a new expression of learning that is both learner-centric and potentially longitudinal. How are competencies being captured and managed? How are they being expressed to and by the learner? And how are competencies informing and facilitating this new learner journey? Join us for a panel discussion of the current and future state of competencies in education.

Presenters:

Kate Valenti - Chief Operating Officer, Unicon, Inc.
Cary Brown - Principal Project Manager, Unicon, Inc.
