Q1 2014 Open Source Support Briefing for Sakai

On Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 at 9:00AM PST (11:00AM EST), the Unicon Open Source Support Team held the third quarter Open Source Support Sakai Briefing teleconference.

The quarterly Open Source Support for Sakai Briefing is an opportunity to share with you Unicon's participation in and around the Sakai community, our perspective on progress and happenings in the community, and opportunities to engage further with Unicon. Discussions took place concerning maintenance development on Sakai tools, plans for further enhancement of the Sakai project, as well as excitement about the upcoming releases.
 
Some Highlights of the Call
  • Several bug fixes, enhancements, or improvements completed by Sakai Sustaining Engineering since our last call!
  • Priority development voting now in Zendesk (https://unicon.zendesk.com).
  • Sustaining Engineering tasks that have been completed by the Unicon development team include the following:
    • SAK-24207: Add optional start and end date controls for chat rooms in the chat tool
    • SAK-23907: Move Sakai trunk to monolithic build, remove assemblies, simplify POMs
    • SAK-24432: Drop Box - Email Notification settings are ignored if file is copied from Resources
    • SAK-14519: Add Point Total column on the Gradebook Items Summary screen
    • SAK-22282: Proposed patch to support group submissions.
    • SAK-25316: Group Submission NPE when attempting to grade
    • SAK-22918: Site Info allow XSS in Site Contact Email (Security Issue)
    • SAK-22169: Dropbox and dav can be used to create quota free storage (Security Issue)
    • KNL-1134: ServerConfigurationService changed listener is always being called using getStrings
    • KNL-1075: Make the returns from FormattedText content scans configurable (slient, quiet, noisy) to allow parity with all other major LMSs
    • KNL-1039: When group is deleted folder in resources can become broken
    • SAK-18398: Expand the gradebook REST webservice
    • SAK-23895: Allow users to display short description instead of site title in site tab bar
    • SAK-23770: Problem looking up pages from site id containing spaces on /direct
    • SAK-22187: Record node in scheduler job record
    • SAK-25261: Make the times configurable to allow for performance tuning how much load the tool places on the system
    • KNL-1127: Remove legacy content cleaner for 2.10
    • KNL-1125: Expose existing method to lookup siteIds through the public API (for when sites are not needed)
    • KNL-1059: !site.helper realm doesn't allow content.all.groups
  • Currently, we have the following Sustaining Engineering tasks in-progress:
    • SAK-23662: New datepicker implementation to create constancy throughout various tool's date and time selection mechanisms
    • SAK-22527: Support for MathML in rich text editor
    • SAK-24392: Add password validation when users can set their password
    • KNL-1063: Persist the config changes in the DB (implement a config provider)
  • We often provide recommendations to assist with possible Sustaining Engineering Votes, please see the following recommendations that were discussed in our call.
    • SAK-22282: Proposed patch to support group submissions.
    • SAK-22527: Support for MathML in rich text editor
    • SAK-23662: New datepicker implementation to create constancy throughout various tool's date and time selection mechanisms
    • SAK-21786: EntityBroker does not allow update of site membership role
    • SAK-23306: Add easier method for adding non-lecture section rosters to site (when using CM)
    • SAK-22431: Extend user import in Admin Users tool to support XLS
    • SAK-25559: Improve the site edit page to document information about useful site properties
    • SAK-25545: Upgrade JSF to 2.2.x
  • The Community update portion of our call focused on the Sakai 2.9.4 / 10.0 releases and upcoming conferences. A summary of what will be included in the Sakai 2.9.4 / 10.0 releases can be seen below.
