Institutions have goals of student success and retention, hoping to see large numbers of their students graduate on time. Universities and colleges want their students to be successful, and wish to help them remove obstacles blocking their path to program completion and earning a degree. St. Petersburg College (SPC) realized a need for technology to help them remove these obstacles—the Student Success Plan (SSP). The open source SSP case management software supports a holistic coaching and counseling model which expedites proactive interventions for students in need.
SPC is taking advantage of the Early Alert SSP feature, in which faculty and staff identify student challenges and send early alerts with their reasons and recommendations to engage the appropriate intervention staff. The Early Alert tool provides a feedback loop to the originator to encourage long-term engagement.
