Empowering Learners Through a Skills Visibility Ecosystem

When: Monday, March 3 | 4:30 p.m.-5:15 p.m. MT
Audience Level: Applied

Amidst the shifting demands of the modern workforce, how can we empower learners to showcase their skills even without a full credential? How can we leverage the flexibility of open standards to create pathways for learners to demonstrate their durable skills, without redundant assessments, and provide a second chance for those who need it? Moreover, how can we expedite the process from skill acquisition to showcasing competencies to potential employers?

Join us for an enlightening session with Unicon, Education Design Lab, Edalex, and SmartResume where we’ll demonstrate our integrated skills ecosystem built to tackle these challenges. Discover how we collaborated to develop an integration that enables learners from diverse backgrounds to validate, verify, and showcase their durable skills through Education Design Lab’s assessments in D2L/Brightspace. This innovative approach automatically generates Open Badges 3.0 verified evidence records for sub-competency skills and Open Badges 2.0 Credly badges for full competencies. When Edalex’s Credentialate generates these OpenBadge payloads, it also generates an evidence record consisting of a webpage detailing out the individual criteria achieved by the learner. These evidence records and badges are then seamlessly shared with SmartResume, allowing employers easy access to review the learners’ skill achievements in addition to credentials earned.

Top 3 Takeaways:

  1. Showcasing Partial Achievements: Learn strategies to highlight the incremental achievements of diverse learners as they progress toward full competency.
  2. Overcoming Integration Challenges: Gain insights into planning for and overcoming the challenges of integrating multiple systems in a growing microcredentials program.
  3. Maximizing Benefits for Learners and Employers: Explore how well-integrated, standards-based microcredential systems benefit both learners and employers by enhancing transparency and credibility in the skills marketplace.

C-BEN, 1EdTech, and Unicon are partnering to increase transparency for institutions seeking technology solutions to support their competency-based education (CBE) programs. Leveraging the 1EdTech TrustedApps Program and a unique CBE-focused rubric, C-BEN aims to develop a "CBE Technology" endorsement to assist institutions in making informed procurement decisions that align with the principles of competency-based learning.

This session will present a draft of the CBE Technology rubric and explore the proposed endorsement process. We invite your active participation to shape this initiative. Share your valuable insights and feedback on our approach, including the rubric criteria, endorsement process, and potential benefits for institutions and technology providers.
