College to Leverage SSP Education Planning and Journaling Tools

Gilbert, AZ – March 3, 2015— Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting, services, and support provider specializing in open source for the education technology market, today announced that Jefferson College has selected Unicon for Student Success Plan (SSP) implementation and support services. Jefferson College, located in Hillsboro, Missouri, with a student population of roughly 5,200 (as of fall 2013), is a two-year institution that offers credit programs leading to one of four associate degrees or numerous career and technical certificates. Jefferson College decided to continue its mission of promoting student success by implementing SSP. Case management technology, SSP, helps institutions achieve student success by providing a holistic coaching and counseling model for integrated planning and advising services (IPAS). Coaches, counselors, and advisors at Jefferson College will specifically be taking advantage of the education planning tool, My Academic Plan (MAP), and the journaling tool.

In addition to making great use of the MAP and Journal tools, SSP has many other tools that will help the college promote student success. SSP features tools for early alerts, counseling and interventions, action plans, and student self-help. SSP is open source software, which allows the college and other institutions to customize the system as needed.

“Adding SSP to our ongoing student success strategy will help us encourage students to stay on track and complete their degrees and certificates,” said Dr. Raymond Cummiskey, President, Jefferson College. “We are looking forward to how SSP will enhance the success of our students so that they may continue to become community and business leaders, educators, health care experts, technical professionals, law enforcement officers, or other respected graduates that serve our community.”

Unicon will provide IT consulting services, including implementation planning, systems integration, training, and support. Unicon will integrate the institution’s student information system (SIS) and learning management system (LMS) with SSP, making it possible to populate student data from the SIS and academic data from the LMS directly into SSP. Unicon will also provide training to coaches, counselors, and advisors, ensuring they are well equipped to use the software.

Unicon will support SSP for Jefferson College through its Open Source Support program. The program is a flexible, customizable open source support service with direct access to a dedicated team of developers, consultants, and system administrators. This unique, innovative support model grants access to expert support resources for any type of issue encountered. All support cases are handled directly by experts from the start. Unicon’s Open Source Support program offers enterprise-level support at various SLAs to meet the needs of deployments. In addition to SSP, the program currently provides support for Central Authentication Service (CAS), Drupal, Grouper, Sakai, Shibboleth, and uPortal.
