Sakai 2.5 Final Release Planned For 18 Feb 2008

According to Peter Knoop, Sakai Project Coordinator, the final release of Sakai 2.5 is now planned for 18 February 2008. This is after a much more rigorous set of betas and release candidates than Sakai has ever tested before. So far, JIRA indicates there are 328 new enhancements or features and 1,230 bugs have been found and fixed.
Some highlights from this new release:
- Numerous improvements to usability, accessibility, and internationalization across the entire system
- New XSLT-based portal layer available
- New iFrame-less portal layer designed for mobile devices (smart phones / PDAs)
- Site and Tool categorization capabilities
- Initial support for JSR 170 (Java Content Repository) for the Content service
- Login IDs can now be different from the Sakai EID
- iCal export and import (no reoccurring events yet)
- Test and Quizzes (Samigo) and OSP promoted from provisional to core status
- Lots of added functionality in core tools like Roster, Schedule, Section Info, Resources, Assignments, Test & Quizzes (Samigo), Chat, Forums, Messages, Citation Helper, OSP, Help
- Lots of added functionality in provisional tools like Data Warehouse, Linktool, Page Order Helper, Podcasts, Polls, and Search
- Lots of performance and scalability enhancements
