JBoss Portlet Container 2.0 Beta 1 Released - Provides Full JSR 286 Capability
JBoss has released a first beta of their next generation portlet container that fully implements the Portlet 2.0 (JSR 286) specification. In an interesting move for JBoss, they have built it to be reusable in applications other than JBoss Portal and have made it available as a portlet development/test platform bundled with either JBoss App Server or with Tomcat.
This is an area that has been dominated by the Apache Pluto project, as it previously provided the only lightweight Portlet 1.0 (JSR 168) development platform that could be used without running a full-up portal implementation. However, the Pluto project has been slow to deliver the reference implementation of JSR 286, so JBoss has a nice window of opportunity right now to capture the hearts-and-minds of the portlet development community.
The JBoss Portlet Container is available under the LGPL, so it can be combined into other projects without invoking the GPL.
