Spring and Portlets at Desert Code Camp

This past weekend I participated in a local conference called The Desert Code Camp. This conference was provided free of charge. People volunteered to speak on different topics and you could attend any session you wanted.

I volunteered to speak on two topics, the Spring Framework and the JSR 168 Portlet Specification. I mentioned during my presentations that I would make my presentations available through this web site.

The presentation Why Spring? examines the Spring Framework at a high level and tries to introduce newcomers to the reasons behind why Spring was created. Normally it would take days to train someone who is new to Spring, so this presentation seeks only to convince someone it's worth learning. You can find the Why Spring? SLIDES HERE.

The presentation Portlet Development with JSR 168 is a brief introduction to the JSR 168 Specification for Portlets. JSR 168 is a specification that was completed in 2003. This standard allows developers to write a Portlet that are portable across any compliant Portal container. You can find the Portlet Development with JSR 168 SLIDES HERE.

I had a great time this weekend participating as both an attendee and as a speaker. It was good to see people I know but haven't seen in years, as well as meet some new faces. A special thank you to the organizers of this event, I appreciate all the effort.
